Assura Celebrates New Medical Centre in Huthwaite

A £2.9 million new health centre has opened in Huthwaite, bringing much needed improvement and new services for patients in Sutton in Ashfield. The long awaited Brierley Park Medical Centre replaced inadequate surgery rooms and temporary buildings on New Street with purpose built new premises in Sutton Road. Doctors at the surgery were instrumental in attracting funding for the centre, which is owned by Primary Care investor, Assura Group and was developed by LSP Developments.

The new building has been designed in partnership with medical staff to create a modern, functional and environmentally efficient facility, which has a dedicated patient resource area to help tackle long-term health problems and the prevention of ill health for the community. The centre has the potential to provide extra clinics and has an upgraded telephone system that will improve the experience for people calling the centre.

The medical centre provides the full range of primary care services with a dedicated treatment room as well as a minor operation suite enabling staff to expand its services for contraception, teenage health and minor surgery. The practice also has a large meeting room for healthcare related education and a dedicated patient information area where patients can check their own body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure. There is also a light and fun children’s area with wall mounted play panels, table and chairs and books. The centre also has ample parking and facilities for people with disabilities.

Dr Hilary Lovelock – the Senior Partner at Brierley Park, said: “We have always strived to provide our patients with high quality care so this new facility will help us to continue to provide that service in a modern, comfortable and fit for purpose facility our community rightfully deserves. The feedback we’ve had so far has been amazing – patients commented that it felt like “walking into a hotel with its a spacious reception and waiting area and calm atmosphere.”

Dr Raian Sheikh, Clinical Chair of Mansfield and Ashfield Clinical Commissioning Group said: “The CCG is proud that its patients are being served by a facility that truly meets its needs. Many of the new services will aim to promote healthy lifestyles, prevent ill health and improve the experience for patients using primary care and we hope will encourage them to use the facility to improve their health.”

The centre is owned and funded by Assura Group, a specialist healthcare property partner that invests in NHS and primary healthcare facilities. Amanda Roddy, development manager at Assura Group, said: “We are extremely pleased to see the completion of the Brierley Park Medical Centre, whose state of the art facilities look set to revitalise patient care across Sutton. The practice definitely meets the needs of the GPs and patients in the area, and are we looking forward to continuing our work within Sutton as the landlord on the scheme.”

Phil Lilley, development manager at LSP Developments, commented: “The Huthwaite project has been a great development to work on. Working alongside Partners of the practice we have ensured that the finished result is bespoke, fit for purpose, and carries the service from the medical centre into the 21st century.”

The former practice, built in the 1950s, was operating from one of the oldest NHS buildings still being used for clinical purposes.

The Practice is accepting new patients and registration forms are available at the Centre.
