Down at the seafront in the beautiful town of St Leonards in East Sussex is a view like no other. But the town which is famous as home to kings, queens and saints, for its private gardens and beautiful coast needed some help with a home of a different sort.

The new building in Meadow Road brings modern healthcare facilities to the town and it lies just meters away from the practice's previous building. The clinic had outgrown its old building and the team struggled to expand the range of services they could offer to patients.

Whitchurch Road Surgery needed a new building to help provide the best possible care to patients, without isolating their existing patients by moving to a new location miles away from their former premises.

Built in the beautiful market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, patients and staff at Stow surgery waited patiently for their perfect building. The surgery was built on Maugersbury Road and brought fresh, modern, spacious facilities to the town.

In July 2017, one of Porthcawl's two medical centres closed its doors to patients leaving one GP practice and two buildings. Already overcrowded Portway Medical Centre needed a new home for their existing patients.

Five new patient consulting rooms, a minor operations suite, a conference room for training, improved reception, waiting and admin areas. Not easy to come by when you're a GP surgery in South London.

Brixworth medical centre was more than just a brand new medical centre for a brand new building. The medical centre was built as part of a housing development. When housing developments are built this can bring an increase in patients to the area, meaning additional services are needed including a larger GP practice.

Living with long-term conditions is challenging enough without having to travel long distances for treatments like regular renal dialysis. But until recently, that was the prospect facing many patients in Durham, who would make the journey to Sunderland, Bishop Auckland, Shotley Bridge or Sacriston for a range of NHS treatments as facilities weren't available for them in communities in the north west of the country.

The area's new medical centre is right at the heart of it - helping to put primary care on the map for all the right reasons. Serving almost 6,800 patients, West Gorton Medical Centre works in part of the country facing huge health challenges.

Completed in September 2017, Woodville Surgery's new building moved the practice team a matter of meters across the road from their previous premises.

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site just 14 years earlier for its industrial landscape, the town had been in need of a modern surgery building to make space for a broader range of primary care services such as minor operations, physiotherapy, health education, training and a nurse practitioner.

Perched overlooking the Menai Strait in North Wales, in the village of Y Felinheli, this is a primary care centre with an outlook like no other. Opened in May 2013, the building created the space for a local GP surgery to move from cramped premises into a site made for modern healthcare.

The building has been sensitively designed to blend in with the adjacent parkland and features timber cladding to the external walls and biodiversity roof sown with wildflowers and grasses. The building was completed to BREEAM Excellent standard and includes air source heat pumps and a landscaped sustainable drainage wetland area.

In the NHS's 70th year, the health service also marked the fortieth anniversary of a pioneering procedure which changed the lives of millions of people around the world. The first IVF baby, Louise Brown, arrived in 1978 in Oldham. Four decades later, a fertility centre born out of that first success was itself seeking to grow.

It's famous for its shipbuilding and Britain's first publically-funded park, which went on to inspire the design of Central Park in New York. But Birkenhead is also on the map for being one of the most deprived towns in England, and for mortality rates which are significantly worse than the national average

With its striking flashes of colour and sweeping entrance, it's not hard to see why Freshney Green Primary Care Centre has won awards for its design. Spanning more than 7,000 sqm, housing three GP practices and a range of other services to serve more than 30,000 patients, it's one of the biggest medical buildings of its kind.

It's perhaps not often that a place for fostering better health is born out of the site of a now-closed public house. But that's exactly what happened to create this beautiful building to serve 28,000 patients in Hampshire.

Our building in Harlech was built in 2014 and is still a brilliant example of sustainable building design.
