Construction of the new £2.5m Willington Medical Centre in Derbyshire has officially started this week, and was celebrated with a ceremonial turf-cutting event. The state-of-the-art development is the latest project from leading healthcare property developer, Assura Group, delivered in conjunction with LSP Developments.
Local MP Heather Wheeler and lead GP at the practice, Dr Kyran Farrell, led the event, alongside representatives from Assura Group, LSP Developments, and architect West Hart Partnership.
The 13,000 sq ft medical centre will incorporate the Willington Surgery and a local independent pharmacy. It is expected to be completed in November 2013.
Amanda Roddy, development manager at Assura Group, said: “We’re very pleased to have started on site alongside LSP Developments on yet another high quality medical centre, which will provide a joined up service for patients in a modern and eco-friendly environment.”
Ed Sutton, managing director at LSP Developments, added: “It is very exciting to finally start on site following the extensive planning process. The new medical centre will offer top of the range facilities for the patients and GPs alike and we expect the staff and visitors to be very pleased with the final result. A great deal of thanks must go to both South Derbyshire District Council and also local councillor Martyn Ford who were extremely supportive throughout the whole process of finding an appropriate site for the new surgery.”
Dr Farrell, GP at the Willington Medical Centre, continued: “We are delighted that the building work for our new surgery has begun and we look forward to being able to offer our patients a more comprehensive healthcare service in their local area.”
