Primary care property developer and investor Assura Group has finished its latest project, the £3.5million 17,000 sq ft Victoria Park Health Centre in Leicester.

The new eco-friendly health centre will provide purpose-built accommodation for a local GP practice formerly based at the Freemen’s Common Health Centre.

The Victoria Park Health Centre has been carefully built to incorporate environmental features, including a sustainable drainage system, air source heat pumps and a ‘bio-diverse’ roof. The new building also has a nearby wetland area with native grass, wildflowers and a flower meadow. Internally the health centre will deliver both a welcoming and therapeutic environment for patients and visitors.

The Victoria Park Health Centre is the latest completion for Assura Group in the Midlands, following recent projects in Huthwaite, Chellaston and Castle Mead. It brings Assura Group’s total healthcare portfolio in the region to 23 properties.

Simon Gould, development manager at Assura Group, said: “We’re very pleased to hand over the Victoria Park Health Centre to the GPs. The completed centre will enable the doctors to provide the local community with quality healthcare, as well as being pleasant to the eye and complementary to the surrounding greenery.”

Dr Pratima Khunti, lead GP at Victoria Park Medical Centre, commented: “We are delighted with the new surgery building, it is the realisation of many years work. It will be wonderful to work from premises that are fit for purpose, and I look forward to seeing the response from our patients.”

The surgery will serve local residents and students from the nearby University of Leicester. Designed by architecture practice West Hart Partnership, the newly opened medical centre was built by contractor Primus.
