Construction of the new £2.5m Willington Medical Centre has started in Derbyshire this week. The state-of-the-art development is the latest project from leading healthcare property developer, Assura Group, delivered in conjunction with LSP Developments.
The 13,000 sq ft medical centre will incorporate a GP practice and a local independent pharmacy. The building will include sustainable energy measures and is expected to achieve a BREEAM rating of Very Good.
The scheme is the latest of several projects completed by Assura Group in the Midlands, including Victoria Park Health Centre, the extension of the Castle Mead Medical Centre in Leicestershire, and Balsall Common in Solihull.
Amanda Roddy, development manager at Assura Group, said: “We are currently delivering a number of fantastic projects in the Midlands, with several integrated health centres that have started on site in the last 12 months. The ability for primary care providers to deliver a wide range of services to their communities has been hampered in some cases by out of date facilities, but the buildings we provide help to remedy that.”
Ed Sutton, managing director at LSP Developments, commented: “It’s great to be working with Assura Group on yet another high-quality project. The new Centre will provide great modern facilities for the surgery, which is currently very popular in the local area.”
Dr Farrell, GP at the Willington Medical Centre, continued: “The new medical centre will enable us to provide a pleasant, well-designed and eco-friendly environment for patients fit for the demands of an evolving NHS. We are very grateful to the many people who have helped us along the way.”
West Hart Partnership is the architect on the scheme. The health centre is expected to be completed in Winter 2013.
