05 Jun 2013

The UK’s leading primary care property developer and investor, Assura Group has started on site at its latest development, a 7,100 sq ft GP surgery in Harlech, North Wales. The scheme is delivered in partnership with developer Amcen Cyfyngedig.

Completion of the £1.6million primary care centre will see the Ardudwy Health Centre relocate from its current site at Ffordd y Traeth. It will be joined in the new building by the Local Health Board, who is taking 546 sq ft of space.

The scheme is the latest of several projects currently underway by Assura Group in Wales, including the construction of health centres in Gelligaer, Milford Haven and Y Felinheli with a total value of circa £8million. The building is expected to complete by Spring 2014 and is set to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.

Amanda Roddy, development manager at Assura Group, said: “It is great to reach this stage on yet another project with Amcen Cyfyngedig. We are committed to developing modern and well-equipped health centres for communities across Wales, and are very much looking forward to seeing our plans come to fruition.”

Mark Roberts of Amcen Cyfyngedig commented: “The quality of GP premises is extremely important, with rising demand, diversifying services and cost-cutting measures increasing the pressure on primary care delivery. Completion of this project will see Ardudwy Health Centre operating from a property that is fit for purpose and supports its vision for patient care now and into the future.”

Judith Clarke, lead GP for Bronmeirion Surgery, continued: “We are very excited that work has begun on our new Branch Surgery – Ardudwy Health Centre, and look forward to seeing how it progresses over the coming months. The building will include exceptional healthcare facilities which will assist us in offering the highest standard of care to our patients and complement the services we already offer in our other locations.”

The architect on the scheme is WM Design & Architecture Ltd, with the contractors Williams Homes Bala Ltd.
