Budget focus on public private partnerships: what we say
30 Oct 2018

Chancellor Philip Hammond announced an end to the use of PFI and PF2 in this week’s budget speech – but reiterated government’s continued commitment to public private partnerships which deliver well for taxpayers.

Our CEO, Jonathan Murphy, says: “Public private partnerships play a critical role in the development of infrastructure, particularly in healthcare, across the UK. The chancellor’s commitment to working with the private sector is hugely welcome and reflects the fact that a huge volume of partnerships work exceptionally well to deliver good value to the taxpayer while reducing risk – a clear example being partnerships with GPs and the NHS to develop primary care centre buildings serving millions of patients.

“For government to deliver its ambitious transformation of the NHS, all parties have flagged the need for additional investment in the primary care estate to help ease the pressure on hospital buildings which are literally bursting at the seams – and the private sector stands ready to play its part.”
