Building work will start next month on our new, state-of-the-art medical centre in Nunthorpe, Middlesborough.

The Borough Road and Nunthorpe Medical Group will move into the new building off Stokesley Road upon completion. Inside there will be eight new consulting rooms, two new treatment rooms, a meeting room and space for staff training. The building has also been designed to improve patient confidentiality within waiting areas.

The current practice premises in Nunthorpe are inadequate to accommodate the increasing size of the patient list.

With new homes set to be built in the area, a new building is needed to serve the demands of the community and cope with the increasing pressure on services.

Lisa Fox, Practice Manager, said: “We are all so excited at the practice that building work will soon be starting on our new medical centre. The extra space will help us provide the best possible care to our patients and the new building will be much more accessible. We cannot wait to get the keys and start working there.”

The emphasis of the new development is to create facilities for primary care that are safe, patient-centred and high quality, which can help people to take control of their own health.

The new development is under 15 minutes’ walk away from the current building. There will be 30 car parking spaces, including three spaces for disabled patients as well as six bays for cyclists to use.

Andrew Cooper, our Senior Development Manager, said: “It’s fantastic news that construction work is set to start on this brilliant facility. It will provide a major boost to primary care in the area especially after everything that has happened in the last 18 months. It has taken a huge amount of determination and teamwork from everyone involved to get this project moving whilst dealing with the pandemic and we are delighted to be a part of it.”

It is estimated that the building will be completed next summer.
