We’re proud to have longstanding partnerships with charities supporting the patients using our buildings and the staff who work within them. Helping them to continue their work is an important part of our response to the COVID-19 crisis.
We’ve donated £25,000 to our friends at Dementia UK, to help them add more resource to their vital Admiral Nurse Helpline. This service means that support and advice for families living with dementia is only a phone call away and in these times of social distancing and isolating, is facing particular pressures as the number of calls rises significantly.
Dr Hilda Hayo, Chief Admiral Nurse and CEO of Dementia UK, said: “This is generous support from Assura who have recognised the additional pressures that families living with dementia are now facing because of the current loss of community groups, who provide such vital support and respite to carers.
“With this additional donation we are now able to increase the number of nurses working on our Helpline, providing more specialist advice and support to families living with dementia when they need it most.”
We’ve also agreed that two projects receiving grants from our Healthy Communities Scheme can focus their funding on responding to the immediate health needs they’re tackling: one to Royal Voluntary Service, which is focusing on its national NHS Volunteers programme with NHS England, and one to Community Health Around Torpoint in Cornwall.
We’re working on further plans for longer-term support through our community programme in the coming months.
