We’re teaming up with a national dementia charity – to make sure help is always at the end of a phone for families living with the condition.
We’re joining forces with Dementia UK to support the charity’s free and specialist-led Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline this year. We’re donating £15,000 to the charity so that an Admiral Nurse can be at the end of the phone every Sunday for families in need.
Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, Admiral Nurses work alongside families affected by dementia, giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions, helping families face dementia with more confidence and less fear.
Dr.Hilda Hayo, CEO and Chief Admiral Nurse from Dementia UK says: “We are so grateful to Assura in supporting our Helpline. There is huge demand for specialist dementia support, with calls to our Helpline trebling over the last three years. Most of our calls come from family carers in crisis: they’re frustrated, distressed, exhausted and do not know where to go to for help. This is especially the case on Sunday when health and social care services can be more limited. Our Admiral Nurses uncover the root of families’ challenges with dementia and provide them with the knowledge and skills to live more confidently day after day”.

Dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK, with 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today and that number expected to reach 2 million by 2051.
Our CEO, Jonathan Murphy, says: “We’re very proud to be supporting Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline and to making sure families always have a place to turn, even on one of the most difficult days of the week.
“More widely, with a growing number of dementia patients and their families using medical centre buildings, and with GPs talking to us about the role of building design in supporting those patients, we’re also looking forward to learning from Dementia UK’s team as part of our partnership.”
The partnership will build on our existing work to explore the best examples of primary care building design from around the world which help improve the experiences for patients and staff. These include designing for dementia and improving the use of colour, space and light – with the goal of using some of those innovations in future buildings.
