Work on a new medical centre in Hastings is moving along at pace – as new bird’s-eye view footage shows.

We are funding the three storey medical centre which is being delivered by Till Developments and constructed by locally based Westridge Construction.

Contractors, Westridge, have put site management measures in place to reduce all opportunity for social contact on site to continue construction despite the challenges of coronavirus, in line with government advice, HSE and CIC guidance.

The purpose-built medical centre which is being built on Bexhill Road in St Leonards will provide new accommodation for the Carisbrooke Surgery – which is currently operating from portacabins following a fire at its former premises – and the Silver Springs Medical Practice branch site of the High Glades Medical Centre.

The new drone photos show the progress made on the new building, which includes completion of the steel frame, concrete slabs and near completion of the roof.

The project began last summer and is due to complete this autumn.

The building will provide patients with additional space, facilities and an onsite pharmacy on the ground floor. The new centre will include 26 consulting rooms, six treatment rooms and a training suite.

Ashley Seymour, our Senior Development Manager said: “At a time when so much construction has had to pause, it’s fantastic to see this much-needed facility still progressing. We are delighted to be working with Till Developments to create this state-of-the-art building for local patients and in a year when the tireless work of primary care has been under such a spotlight, the opening of this centre will be a particularly special milestone.”

Liam MacCarthy, Director at Till Developments, said: “Everyone has risen to the challenge of working in very different ways at the moment and after more than two years of working on this project, we’re so pleased to be able to continue construction to get the centre to the finish line. We are incredibly proud of the progress the building has made during this difficult time.”

Nick MacCarthy, Senior Partner at Carisbrook surgery, said: “. The new building is vital for our patients and we can’t wait to have a permanent home – which will open at a time when the role of primary care and health services in the community has never been more important.”
