Our transformation of an empty GP surgery building in Kirklees is set to create a state-of-the-art new space for local doctors and patients.
The building on Cook Lane, Heckmondwike – vacant since Brookroyd Surgery moved to its new premises in Heckmondwike Health Centre several years ago – is being overhauled and refurbished to create fit-for-purpose premises for the nearby Albion Street Surgery, which serves 2,600 patients.
Set to open this autumn, our transformation of the new-look building includes four treatment rooms and a room for minor operations in accessible space which meets all the latest clinical requirements, as well as better waiting areas and administration space.
Dr Jabbar from Albion Street Surgery says: “We can’t wait to move into the new-look building – we need space to keep developing our offer to patients and this will give us the premises to do that. It’s very exciting to see it taking shape and we very much look forward to the end result.”
Paul Warwick, our Development Manager says: “This development is particularly special because we’ve been able to make sure that a building with a long NHS history will go on to provide NHS care for decades to come. GPs can’t deliver the huge task of moving more health services into our communities without the right spaces in the right places, and this project is a prime example of how - with the right support - the NHS can re-use existing buildings to make them fit for the future.”
