Staff at our development in Launceston have moved into their new extension, the first phase of the premises plan .

The two-storey project to the rear of the current building was launched to create additional space for the surgery, which had outgrown its current premises and now needs to serve almost 20,000 patients.

The project has been split into two phases, to minimise disruption for patients and the team.

The extension provides an extra 10 consulting rooms (including training facilities), and related administration space. There will also be space to allow staff from across different healthcare areas, such as paramedics and practice nurses, to work together in a multidisciplinary environment.

The next stage will involve us updating and improving the existing building, built in 1992, to include improved waiting/reception areas and improved dispensary.

Andrew Yardley, Practice Manager at Launceston Medical Centre said: “I can’t even begin to explain what this new space means to our team in terms of morale and enabling our clinical team to provide an improved service to our patients. The past few months have been the most challenging I have ever seen in the NHS and during this time you have built a fantastic building that has already made such a difference.”

Roger Serginson, our Senior Development Manager said: “Launceston MC have worked with us, the NHS and local community organisations for many years to secure these changes , it is very pleasing to see  how it is already making a positive difference to the Practice and we now press on to finish the second phase and complete the entire project for both the Practice and patients .”
