A West Sussex project to support homeless people has won a share of our grant funding - after being nominated by local doctors.
GPs from Coachman’s Medical Practice submitted the Crawley Open House scheme – which provides support for those suffering the effects of homelessness, unemployment, loneliness, discrimination, or other forms of social exclusion - for one of our Healthy Communities grants.
We invited practices working from our buildings around the country to put forward schemes which made a difference to health for their patients.
In its nomination, Coachman’s Medical Practice said: “The scheme offers hostel accommodation for homeless clients, a day centre, help and guidance with achieving financial well-being, health and outreach services to support clients to achieve better physical and mental health in the community. The grant… would make such a difference to so many lives.”
Ian Wilkins from Crawley Open House added: “We’ve served the homeless and vulnerable of Crawley and West Sussex since 1994 and rely heavily on the generosity of companies, places of worship, schools, trusts and individuals in the community to keep providing our vital services. We’re hugely grateful to Assura for their generous grant, and to the GPs at Coachman’s Medical Practice for so thoughtfully nominating us.”
