Planning permission has now been granted to build our new state-of-the-art medical centre in Nunthorpe.

The Borough Road and Nunthorpe Medical Group will move into the new building off Stokesley Road upon completion. Inside there will be eight new consulting rooms, two new treatment rooms, a meeting room and space for staff training, the building has also been designed to improve patient confidentiality within waiting areas.

Lisa Fox, Practice Manager for Borough Road and Nunthorpe Medical Group, said: “All of us at the practice are really delighted that this development is going ahead. It has been such a challenging time recently, but we can all look forward to working from our new building. Our current building just isn’t accessible enough but with this new medical centre we will be able to provide a better service for the people in this community.”

The current practice premises in Nunthorpe are inadequate to accommodate the increasing size of the patient list.

With new homes set to be built in the area, a building is needed to serve the demands of the community and cope with the increasing pressure on services.

The new development will be built just off Stokesley Road and is under 15 minutes’ walk away from the current building. There will be 30 car parking spaces, including three spaces for disabled patients as well as six bays for cyclists to use.

The emphasis of the new development is to create facilities for primary care that are safe, patient-centred and high quality, which can help people to take control of their own health.

It is estimated that the building work will start in summer 2021 with an aim towards a summer 2022 completion.

Andrew Cooper, our Senior Development Manager, said: “Getting planning permission for this development is a major step in providing the community with the best primary care services possible. Reaching this stage has been a long process, and it has taken a lot of work from a lot of people. With everything going on in the world showing the importance of medical buildings being fit for purpose, this is really good news for the staff and patients.”
