Renovation works at Riverside Medical Centre, Castleford, West Yorkshire are now complete.

The upgrade will provide a range of benefits to both patients and staff members whilst improving the sustainability of the medical centre by introducing LED lighting and an Air Source Heat Pump.

Before the project was carried out, the range and number of local treatments that the medical centre could deliver was limited due to a lack of available treatment rooms and soundproofing of consulting rooms was insufficient which led to patient confidentiality issues.

The works sought to address these issues through two phases, designed to minimise disruption to the practice whilst providing a sustainable solution.

Phase one included a new build extension and improvements in the existing bungalow structure, which created six additional clinical rooms, a sub-waiting area and a training and meeting facility.

In the second phase, the existing building was refurbished. This phase of the project included the renovation of a consulting room and the creation of a new interview room.

The works cater for the increase in demand for services as the number of registered patients has steadily grown in recent years with over 11,500 patients currently registered.

Emma Wilson, Practice Manager for Riverside Medical Centre, said: “We are delighted that the renovation has now been completed. The improved accommodation provides us with the space and facilities we need to provide additional services to our patients.”

The works have created a modern, versatile and more accessible space. This will allow for more GP appointments and gives the medical centre the opportunity to provide additional treatments.

Paul Warwick, our Director for Technical Projects, said: “Working on Riverside Medical Centre has been a rewarding project for all concerned. We are pleased to deliver a space which is fit for purpose and will be suitable for the practice and the provision of Primary Care for years to come.“
