New medical centre in Newtown reaches completion
10 Dec 2020

Our new Newtown Medical Centre has completed its construction and will be opening its doors to patients on 25th January.

The energy‐efficient development includes an on‐site pharmacy and a range of treatment and consulting facilities to serve more than 11,000 local patients.

The £3.5million medical centre and pharmacy was built by Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group.

Ashley Seymour, our Senior Development Manager said: “We are absolutely delighted that this development has completed. It has been a challenging construction which has endured two lockdowns but thanks to the hard work of everyone involved the building is finally ready for the doctors and pharmacist to move in, and we think this is going to be transformational for both the staff and patients who will be using the new surgery.”

The new premises sit just 200 yards from Newtown Medical Centre’s old surgery and will include four treatment rooms, 11 consulting rooms, training and light‐filled waiting areas.

GP partner, Dr Samar Mukherjee from Newtown Medical Centre said: “We are all so happy to be able to move into our new building and we cannot wait to see what our patients think of it. The new building is better suited to the needs of our community and will enable us to offer more key services to our patients.”

Andrew Lawley, from the Sandwell and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “This development shows the commitment of the NHS to improving our primary care network and this new surgery will be a massive benefit to the people who will be using the surgery.”

Andy Moore, Senior Project Manager for Midas Construction, said: “We are delighted to have completed this modern new facility which will provide benefits to the local community for many years to come, and we are particularly proud to have done so during what has been an extraordinary and challenging time for everyone.

“The success of the project is a tribute to the excellent relationship with our valued customer, Assura, and the commitment of our site team and entire supply chain who have worked well together whilst ensuring the health and safety of all people involved with the scheme through our strict compliance with Covid‐19 guidance.”
