Work to build our primary care centre in Hertfordshire has now completed and the new building has officially opened.
The extension of the former Meade House building in Ware, which started on site 12 months ago, has created new premises for the Dolphin House Surgery and also includes an on-site pharmacy.
The project saw the transformation of the old fire station, which had until recently accommodated the police and Citizen's Advice Bureau, into a modern health hub with significantly more space to service the practice's 14,600 patients and it includes facilities for a broader range of services, and outpatient clinics. The new extension has been carefully designed to complement the character of the retained existing building.
Jill O'Brien, Managing Partner at Dolphin House Surgery, said: "The new medical centre will provide us with better facilities for both patients and staff and will allow the practice to deliver effective care along with better collaboration ultimately between all the medical agencies in Ware, it will also allow for the expanding Ware population in the future and we are looking forward to finally moving in."
The new facility includes 19 new clinical rooms comprising a mix of consulting and treatment. It also offers a pleasant waiting area for visitors plus office space and dedicated training areas.
Sue Fogden, Assistant Director (Premises) for East and North Herts and Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Groups said: "Recognising the poor conditions of the existing premises which was a limiting factor on ease of access and range of services for our patients, the practice supported by then PCT and now CCG had, without success, searched for suitable land options for several years. We are delighted that this project has finished, it is a good outcome for our patients and the wider community of Ware."
David Sadler, our Senior Development Manager, said; "I am really pleased to have had the opportunity to work on this project and to be able to improve, refurbish and repurpose an existing community building with a whole new lease of life for the future of health in the town. We are confident that this new facility will make a huge difference to both staff and patients."
