Our new state‐of‐the‐art medical practice in Canterbury has opened its doors to patients offering improved access to a wide range of primary care and community health services. – with new photos offering an inside glimpse of the modern facilities for local care.
Canterbury Medical Practice has moved into the purpose‐built premises on Ethelbert Road, situated within Kent and Canterbury Hospital. The practice previously operated from outdated premises in Cossington House and London Road.
The new two‐storey building has 11 consulting rooms, four nurse treatment rooms and an enhanced treatment room as well as improved design for disabled access, patient confidentiality, and infection control.
Emma Ray, Executive Manager at Canterbury Medical Practice, said: “It’s so exciting for us to finally be able to move into the new building. Our old surgeries were lovely old buildings but presented many challenges, such as accessibility with their steep staircases, and are no longer considered suitable for the delivery of the modern healthcare services our patients’ need and deserve. We look forward to welcoming our patients to our lovely new premises over the coming months and years.”
The new surgery will provide much needed additional capacity to help meet the needs of Canterbury’s expanding population; provide an opportunity to extend the range of patient services available in the community and has been designed and built to meet the latest environmental standards. A spokesperson from Kent and Medway CCG, said: “This excellent new facility will enable practice staff to provide quality health care in purpose‐built surroundings. This has been a priority scheme for several years, and we are delighted to see it come to fruition.
"The current pandemic has really highlighted the importance of primary care facilities and this new medical centre will be a fantastic asset to the community and help deliver the best possible care and services to users of the building.”
The development is one of the first new-build GP premises projects in the country to have received capital funding from NHS England’s Estates and Technology Transformation Fund (ETTF) and has been a priority scheme for NHS Kent and Medway CCG for a number of years.
Our Development Manager, Sam Callow, added: “It’s always an exciting and rewarding time when we complete a new medical centre and I’m delighted the building is now open to patients. It has been a long development process but the practice now has the flexibility and additional space needed to deliver a range of enhanced primary care services and the ability to support other healthcare providers within their primary care network, boosting health outcomes for the local community.”
