A Buckinghamshire scheme to launch a pop-up ‘health café’ at a GP surgery has won a share of our grant funding - after being nominated by GPs from Westcroft Health Centre in Milton Keynes.
The practice put forward the plan - which will create a welcoming place where people can come for a cuppa, a bite to eat, information and tips on a range of issues which can impact on mental health - for one of our Healthy Communities grants.
In its nomination, the practice said: “Social influences are a real driver for health and wellbeing and we have strong links with a range of organisations keen to come together to create a community café space which can promote these. We’ve looked to other health centres where community-focused health cafes have created an extra level of support for their patients, and this funding allows us to get this innovation started for our patients.”
The café will also be open to patients of three other surgeries nearby.
