Plans to create a new medical centre building for Newcastle’s biggest GP practice have been submitted to Newcastle City Council.
The proposals, to build new premises for Saville Medical Group’s Newbiggin Hall site, are designed to give the practice space to care for growing numbers of patients by a broader mix of primary care professionals.
The scheme would create a new building just 500m from the existing site on the corner of Trevelyan Drive and Newbiggin Lane, which would house all services from the current Newbiggin Hall branch surgery building and provide extra back office space for the whole practice. The current Saville Place building would also be reconfigured to create extra clinical space there. More consulting and treatment rooms, training space, minor surgery and parking spaces will all form part of the overall project.
Dr Samantha Graham from Saville Medial Group said: “To have access to a magnificent brand new building of this scale is not only utterly uplifting for patients and staff morale, but most importantly will comprehensively allow Saville Medical Group to deliver excellent patient care for the local community.”
The scheme has the support of Newcastle City Council, which made the land available as part of the Newbiggin Hall estate redevelopment. The new medical centre, designed by P&HS Architects, is an important piece of the wider community regeneration scheme to create new homes and retail units. The projects will be funded and delivered by us.
If the plans are approved, construction of the new building would begin over the summer, and complete next year.
Patients and the wider community can view the plans at www.assuranewbiggin.com as well as at the current surgery sites, and provide their feedback to planners via Newcastle City Council’s planning portal.
Andy Cooper, our Senior Development Manager said: “Saville Medical Group has been working towards this for a long time and with the new space this project could create, the team has big plans for patient care.”
