For everyone who works in a school, it’s been a challenging few years – which is why the 2022 Warrington Guardian’s Education Awards were particularly special.

The awards, which launched in 2016, aim to recognise the outstanding achievements and innovation of pupils and students during the academic year.

We were delighted to sponsor the award for Primary School Head Teacher of the Year which went to Jamie Vermiglio from Locking Stumps Community Primary School.

Jamie leads the school with compassion, understanding and love and support for the education and welfare of his pupils.

A number of nominations described his unwavering support during periods of lockdown, organising virtual events and going out of his way to ensure there was minimal disruption for the children.

Belinda Lewis, our Head of HR, presented Jamie’s award during the ceremony: “We were really proud to sponsor this category and provide our support to this fantastic event. We’d would like to congratulate both Jamie and the school on everything they’ve achieved for their pupils, this is a much-deserved award.”

Due to the pandemic the ceremony has not been held since 2018 and this year the event was held virtually and hosted by Elaine Willcox, ITV Granada presenter and lead correspondent.
