We’re growing our support for national dementia charity Dementia UK – to make sure help is always at the end of a phone for families living with the condition.
We’re joining forces with Dementia UK for a second year in a corporate partnership to support the charity’s free and specialist-led Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline.
We’re donating £30,000 to the charity this year to help run the helpline every Sunday for families in need, and to help with salary costs for one of the nurses taking calls.
Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, Admiral Nurses work alongside families affected by dementia, giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions, helping families face dementia with more confidence and less fear. There are currently more than 270 Admiral Nurses working across various settings including out in the community, care homes, hospitals and hospices as well as on the Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline.
Susan Drayton, Clinical Lead on the helpline says: “We’re delighted to have the support of Assura for a second year running. This will make a huge difference to the support we are able to provide families affected by dementia, when they need it the most.”
Dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK, with 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today and that number expected to reach 2 million by 2051.
Our CEO, Jonathan Murphy, says: “Dementia is a condition which impacts millions of the people using our primary care buildings all over the country in different ways – whether they’re patients, carers or NHS staff and through the services delivered there. We’re delighted to be doubling our donation to Dementia UK for the coming year knowing the incredible difference that its helpline service is making.”
