A Cornwall scheme to hold support groups for people with low mood and anxiety has won one of our Healthy Communities Grant after being nominated by the GPs at Millbrook Surgery, part of The Rame Group Practice.
We asked all the practices working in our 550 buildings to put forward schemes which made a difference to health for their patients. Community Health Around Torpoint “CHAT” has plans to work with people in the Rame Peninsula including Torpoint, to provide a weekly course followed by a monthly meeting for residents suffering from low mood, anxiety and depression.
The Rame Group Practice said: “A support group would be a much-needed asset for the local community. The needs of people suffering from low mood and anxiety can be constantly changing.”
Becky Lingard, Community Health Around Torpoint said: “Actively listening to the needs of the community as we do, we know there is a need to support people suffering anxiety and through times of stress. It is important for us all to know that we are not ‘on our own’ at those times. We have run similar courses which have proven great success but this time we will have the funding to give participants more of what we feel people need to aid stress release.”
Our CEO, Jonathan Murphy, said: “We hear so much in the media about the pressures facing the NHS due to loneliness – and it’s been particularly striking to see that theme running through many of these nominations. This is invaluable insight from GPs about the community projects which make the biggest difference to health for their patients, and we’re absolutely delighted to support them through our buildings.”
