Our new primary care centre building in South Wales had its official opening this week, celebrating the new facility which will serve more than 16,000 patients and support a wider range of health services for the local community.
The three-story building for the town of Porthcawl houses two GP surgeries with more than 20 consulting rooms, six treatment rooms, space for minor operations and additional health board services as well as a drop-off area, ambulance bay and carpark. Designed to make visiting the surgery easier for those with dementia, it has clear signage around the building and a colour scheme to make patients feel more at ease.
Speaking at the opening, Andrew Griffiths, Chairman of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board said: “Thanks to everyone who made this fantastic building possible – it’s been a long-standing ambition for the practice and a long time coming. I remember coming here last year for the ground breaking in hard hats and high-vis jackets, so it is wonderful to see the building now!”
In a speech, local resident and non-officer member of the Health Board, Maggie Berry, added: “I’m really pleased to be here to…say from a resident’s point of view just how much this building will mean for services and support for residents in the coming years. We have a primary care centre that we can be proud of which will grow our services.”
The building was designed by West Hart Partnership and constructed by LSP Developments with Andrew Scott Ltd.
