We BUILD for health – two decades of health care property

As our 20th anniversary is fast approaching, we wanted to reflect on the last two decades and share some of our key achievements and the things we’re most proud of.

2012 when we became a pure play property company.

2013 when we converted to a REIT (“Real Estate Investment Trust”) since then we have delivered consistently growing returns for investors and 10 years of consecutive dividend growth.

2013 when we opened our very first “BREEAM” rated “Excellent” building, Victoria Park in Leicester. and we have continued to strive towards helping the NHS become the world’s first Net Zero Carbon Healthcare System ever since.

2018 when we received an investment grade credit rating of A- from Fitch and on the back of this launching our Social and Sustainability Bonds. We currently have one of the best debt books in the UK listed real estate market with an average interest rate of only 2.3%.

2020 when we created the Assura Community Fund, which has now distributed more than £1.8m to health-improving projects in the communities around our buildings across the UK. That funding has helped almost 209,000 people in projects which are reducing isolation, improving mental and physical health, supporting young people, expanding access to local community services and helping people with education, employability and skills.

And this year, where we’ve…

…launched our Net Zero Carbon Design Guide and formed a consultancy framework to ensure we are working with the best in class when it comes to sustainable developments.

…completed over one hundred developments. Our milestone 100th development was Prestbury Medical Centre in Wolverhampton closely followed by our 101st development, a new day case unit and diagnostic centre for Ramsay Health Care in Kettering. Two completely different projects, both providing crucial support to healthcare in their communities.

… started onsite with our first Net Zero Carbon developments, a new child development centre in Fareham and a new ambulance hub in Bury St Edmunds. Two projects that will be landmark developments for us and we cannot wait to see both buildings take shape and share the story of these hugely significant healthcare buildings.

…moved to our brand new office in Altrincham where we are trialling the latest technologies and new ways of working, creating a space we are proud to bring our customers to: somewhere where we can bring to life all the net zero standards we’re pushing to see across health care premises.

All of these milestones have shaped what we’ve become and will continue to shape our future as we aim to be the no.1 listed property business for long-term social impact and sustainability.

Here’s to the next 20 years of building for health.
